ODBF is proud to donate $2,535 in support of OrKidstra. OrKidstra is an Ottawa based social development program that strives to empower youth and build community through “the universal language of music”. Their goal is to teach children ages 5-18 from low-income families important life skills such as teamwork, commitment, respect and pride in achievement by providing them with free instruments and music lessons.
OrKidstra was established in 2007 and since then, has seen significant growth and has served more than 800 youth from over 62 linguistic and cultural backgrounds through both in-school and after-school programs. This has given Ottawa children and youth “the chance to learn important life skills such as respect, compassion, and responsibility through playing and working together.”
This donation will help to fund various programs that OrKidstra provides for Ottawa children and youth. These programs include KidSingers, a choir program that “celebrates the beauty and joy of singing together”, and KidPlayers, where children “explore the joy of playing wind and brass instruments in a group, proper technique and the basics of music theory.” These opportunities provide children and youth a safe, creative environment where they can practice self-expression, providing them with a unique experience to discover their voice and unleash their potential through music.
