ODBF is proud to donate $4,030 to support BGC Ottawa. BGC Ottawa aims to provide a supportive, safe place where children can experience new opportunities, overcome obstacles, form relationships, and build confidence and skills for life.
Since 1923, BGC has been serving in the Ottawa area with after-school, weekend and summer programs for children and youth. Offering around 4,500 children free access to fun & unique programs designed to inspire personal growth and empowerment for youth to reach their full potential.
BCG’s life-changing programs consist of four key components: Education; Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle; Leadership and Social Skills; and Creative Arts, and include the wonderful summer camp experience in their program at Camp Smitty, by the beautiful lakefront.
With this donation, BGC Ottawa will be able to purchase essential small appliances for the preparation of healthy snacks for their members on a daily basis. The kitchens at BGC Clubhouses play a major role in supporting healthy eating habits as part of the Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles program structure. Using this kitchen regularly, BGC staff and volunteers run the “Healthy Snacks Program”-a key element of the Homework Club. Working within a suitably equipped kitchen, healthy snacks can be prepared much more efficiently, to “ensure Members have the fuel they need to succeed.”
