On this Earth Day, The Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation (ODBF) proudly supports Ecology Ottawa with a $1,000 donation as part of the ODBF’s ongoing support of Ecology Ottawa’s Tree Ottawa campaign! These funds will go toward the distribution of trees to be planted throughout the National Capital Region.
“Our partnership with Ecology Ottawa helps towards ensuring that our Foundation and our Festivals are a net benefit to the environment,” says Antony Cooper, Director of Operations. “Funding the planting of trees through recycling cans creates a nice synergy between our various green initiatives.”
“Ecology Ottawa is a local, grassroots, volunteer-driven organization working to make Ottawa the green capital of Canada. The ongoing partnership between Ecology Ottawa, the Foundation and the Festival not only significantly promotes Tree Ottawa’s outreach effort, but also directly contributes to the Million Tree Initiative.” Vi Bui, Ecology Ottawa.
“Through out our organization’s history we have shown a commitment minimizing our impact on the environment.” says Antony; “Through Foundation donations to the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority and Ecology Ottawa we’ve planted 2787 trees to-date. The Festival has been twice EcoLogo Certified. We’ve diverted 59,535 bottles from landfill and parked 17,962 bikes.”
“The natural beauty of Mooney’s Bay and the Rideau River are a constant inspiration for us to do our part ensuring a greener planet for generations to come.” says John Brooman, Foundation and Festival CEO.
About Ecology Ottawa’s Tree Ottawa
Tree Ottawa is a community-centred initiative for the Nation’s Capital to dramatically increase the scale and ecological diversity of the urban and rural tree canopy in Ottawa. Tree Ottawa is building a greener community by engaging residents, private companies and public organizations in active efforts to protect, plant and celebrate trees in neighborhoods and green spaces.
Ecology Ottawa is a local, grassroots, volunteer-driven organization working to make Ottawa the green capital of Canada. Their Tree Ottawa campaign aims to not only plant a million trees in Ottawa to help the city’s greenspace recover from the Emerald Ash Borer crisis, but also to advocate for better policy to protect our urban forest.
